Abdominoplasty is carried out against sagging of the abdominal wall that occurred due to certain conditions. The abdominal wall is composed of muscles and stiff membranes that adhere to each other and surrounds and protects the organs. Conditions such as pregnancy, age and weight gain and loss can cause deformations and sagging of the abdominal wall. This sagging is a disturbing appearance for women. Especially after pregnancy abdominal sagging is corrected with abdominoplasty. A sagging abdominal wall can cause many problems. The most important is unavoidable weight gain and obesity. The person looks older and out of shape because of a sagging abdominal wall. This affects the psychology and the person doesn’t even want to look into the mirror. On the other hand, immobility decreases with weight gain. This leads to the situation that the person doesn’t like the clothes he/she is wearing and an avoidance of social environments.

What is Abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty provides the recovery of sagged abdominal skin and the repair of the enlarged abdominal muscles that have been separated from each other. In abdominoplasty an incision similar to cesarean section is made on the lower part of the abdomen to reach the muscles, which are then stitched together.  After that the excess skin is removed and the procedure is completed. Thus, the person gains a more tight and fit stomach.

Types of Abdominoplasty
There are two types of abdominoplasty. The type of surgery is decided according to the degree of loosening of the muscles and the degree of sagging. In full abdominoplasty, the muscles that are separated from each other are sutured from top to bottom by detaching the navel. After that the sagging part, under the naval, is removed completely.
In mini-abdominoplasty only the sagging skin under the naval is removed.

After Abdominoplasty
After abdominoplasty there is no significant pain and the patient gets up and starts walking after a short period. For hemorrhage control, the patient is not allowed to go home for a while. After two days he/she is discharged from the hospital. After that the patient is asked to wear a special corset for 4-6 weeks, which is only to be removed while taking a shower. No heavy load should be lifted for 8 weeks.
